Cedar Creek, October 19-21, 2001

The weather was great at the Cedar Creek re-enactment this fall. I don't have too many shots from this event, but it's definitely one of the best events for spectators, as the camps are close to the action and almost all of the action can be easily viewed from the spectators' positions.

The signal detachment loads up before going onto the field. Signalists were typically only armed with pistols (and were issued same by the Army, the only units for which this was done). To carry on the tradition, we (at least those of us old enough to do so) also carry pistols on the field and get to shoot at Yankees every once in a while. From left to right we have Privates Davis, Wills, Taylor and Marvil and Captain Stecker with his back to the camera.

Here's the backside of a signal party on the field just behind the Confederate line. You can see the Yankees on the far hill. Left to right are Privates Taylor and DeFontes, Corporal Stuart, Private Andrew Davis, a Prussian Observer (Gregory Von Rothenburg), Captain Stecker and I believe the person with the white head covering (called a havelock) is the Mexican Observer, Emery Hamlin.
